I Once Had Nowhere to Go

Millions of individuals experience homelessness each year. This is a worldwide epidemic that deprives people of basic needs such as food, water, shelter, clothing, healthcare, and social inclusion. Although there is no universally accepted description of homelessness, there are various definitions floating about.

It is estimated that there are millions of people residing in temporary shelters, transitional housing, parks, and vehicles. The unhoused face challenges including lack of transportation, stigma, and a host of issues regarding access to adequate healthcare. In some cases, the time spent in the streets could last for years. New strategies or reconfigured programs targeting this population need to be developed to assist with a long-term solution. The key is connecting these individuals with resources and creating a method that can answer questions wherever and whenever the individual needs a solution.

This pictorial guidebook was created to inspire conversation. It was developed as a pathway towards understanding the cause, addresses some key themes, provide insight, and demonstrate what the outcomes are when we have open dialog towards a greater collective solution. The handbook can be used in schools, churches, treatment organizations, or for the individual for self-reflection. Each page should be explored, analyzed, and evaluated in a way in which the reader can thoughtfully place themselves in each situation.

All of us can do our part and we believe that One Light Does Make a Difference.
